The central highlands cover the southern part of the Truong Son Mountain range and comprise the provinces of Lam Dong, Daklak, Gia Lai and Kontum. The area is home to several ethnic minority groups with only about two million people, but has always been considered important due to its strategic location: close proximity to the Cambodian border

The Ho Chi Minh trail and national route 1A. During the Vietnam War, considerable fighting took place in this area which is now renowned for its cool climate, beautiful mountain scenery and tribal culture.

Itinerary

Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City Arrival (B, L, D)

Saigon vietnam

Arrival at Tan Son Nhat airport, transfer to hotel. If time permits, City tour of Ho Chi Minh City include War Remnant Museum where you could see the significant display of many war artifacts; Reunification Palace which was once the headquarter of the South Vietnamese’s government. Overnight in HCMC.

Day 2: HCMC - Pleiku - Kon Tum (B, L, D)

Transfer to airport for flight to Pleiku. Arrival in Pleiku and transfer to Kontum. Hotel check-in. Afternoon visit to former Dakto battlefield (1967) including Charlie hill, Phuong Hoang airfield, Dakto Museum. Then visit to suspension bridge and Sedang hill-tribe village. Dinner followed by show with hill-tribe orphans. Overnight in Kontum.

Day 3: Kon Tum - Pleiku (B, L, D)

Shep in Pleiku Airport

Visit to Kontum market and old bishopric office building. Return to Pleiku for visit to An Khe base and Dektu village, followed by liquor sipping & gong show. Overnight in Pleiku.

Day 4: Pleiku-HCMC (B, L, D)

Morning visit to Ham Rong, Lake Iabang (former American base) and Pleime. PM: transfer to airport for return flight to HCMC, Transfer to & Overnight at hotel in HCMC.

Day 5: HCM City (B, L, D)

City tour of HCMC (Saigon) including the Reunification Conference Hall (formerly the South Vietnamese Presidential Palace), US Embassy grounds and the War Remnants Museum. We then travel towards the Iron Triangle with a visit to a prosthetics clinic in Thu Duc and tour Long Binh, a former base and today is an industrial park. Dinner followed by a cruise on Saigon River. Overnight in HCMC.

Day 6: HCMC – Loc Ninh (B, L, D)

Americane veteran in Dong Ha

Drive to Loc Ninh with stop over at Ben Cat, Thu Dau Mot, Song Be with its modern day golf course before crossing into the areas known War Zone D, including An Loc and Loc Ninh. Overnight in Loc Ninh.

Day 7: Loc Ninh – Tay Ninh (B, L, D)

Proceed towards the areas known War Zone D and Operation Junction City before driving to Tay Ninh, afternoon explore the Black Lady Mountain. Overnight in Tay Ninh.

Day 8: Tay Ninh – Cu Chi - HCMC (B, L, D)

Marble mountain

Tour of the former Michelin Rubber Plantation. Drive to visit Cu Chi underground tunnels. Afternoon return to HCMC. Overnight in HCMC.

Day 9: HCMC – Vung Tau (B, L, D)

Full day excursion to Vung Tau and Ba Ria with stop over at R & R, enjoy the beach. Overnight in Vung Tau.

Day 10: HCMC departure (B)

Early return HCMC. Transfer to airport for departure or begin the next module.
